In 1988 I spent some time on a business trip down in El Paso, Texas and Juarez, Mexico.  Talk about extremes - look in one direction and see a relatively prosperous city.  Look in the other direction and see dire poverty, disease, starvation, child prostitution - you name it.  It was rather unnerving.  Then to pick up the newspaper and read more headlines about atrocities...  When I turned the page and saw a full page ad for folks trying to start up a church bowling league, this song came into being.

(Here Comes) The Holy Bowling League

by mckavanaugh

A sick man lies dying in the street
A young girl starving - nothing to eat
Her sister is sold like a piece of meat
Where is the help they need?

Here comes the holy bowling league
Here comes the holy bowling league
Best damn bowlers you’ve ever seen
Here comes the holy bowling league

Young man with six kids lost his job
TV preacher likes his girls on top
When is it ever gonna stop?
Where is the help we need?

Here comes the holy bowling league
Here comes the holy bowling league
Best damn bowlers you’ve ever seen
Here comes the holy bowling league

Families are crammed into desert towns
Drilling wells in sewer ground
Boil it into coffee to make it real brown
That’s all they really need

Come join the holy bowling league
Come join the holy bowling league
If you’re a bowler we’re what you need
Come join the holy bowling league

Here comes the holy bowling league
Here comes the holy bowling league
Best damn bowlers you’ve ever seen
Here comes the holy bowling league
